No, TomTom is an independent Dutch corporation. One gets a lot of value for very little money with their systems. And all the free updates, except for current speed-cams, where one need to pay a small fee.

I used to drive corporate Beamers - actually i 'owned' (my company did) 7x consecutive M5 models until I sold the company and retired - and did not like the factory installed Navi system too much, also getting the updates was a drag - and cost money.

Well, back to TomTom, I now drive the latest Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (a great car, BTW, just recently introduced in the US), but since we liked the TomTom from my wife's older RAV4 models, I stayed with that in stead of the Toyota factory offer.

Very satisfied indeed, both with TomTom and - with the Toyota Hybrid!
