SB:
Nothing is as difficult as maintaining an enquiring, thoughtful mind during a mania. Even intelligent types usually succumb to the seduction of the group-think, or are mulched by the losses resulting from bucking illogical trends during such periods. In manias it truly does pay to hop on the trend and ride.
The problem of course is that most who do so, inevitably contribute their employed capital plus paper winnings to Mr. Market, and spend the rest of their days cursing markets in general and their personal bad luck in particular.
Manias do end, shattering most participants in the process. In their wakes, only a few are able to, or feel capable of dealing with the market, hence they benefit out of proportion to their employed wealth. Asian events are currently subjecting a quarter of our globe's population to just such a process, and our turn here in the West will come soon enough. While it's been aggravating, patient thinkers are about to reap untoward rewards. Bugs, bears and other scavengers will pick over the bones (g)
Best, Earlie
