Do you understand the term "equilibrium?" An "instantaneous" change in temperature is inconsequential for use as an end point in a process that is headed to an equilibrium. So, you have ups and downs, and they occur not over a year or two or five or 10, but over much longer periods. Up periods. Down periods. In-the-middle periods. None of it matters if people are arbitrarily "adjusting" results to meet their needs, however.
