John, My point about using parallel port....

1. Research the incompatablities that have been known to exist with some devices which use parallel port. There are some devices less friendly than others, but they are improving all the time.. You may not have no problem at all. Get your stuff at a place which will take it back if you want to return it(for whatever reason). I think you have a 95+% chance of it working out of the box. Most big name companies (PC scanners) have resolved conflicts especially on big $$ units.

2. Not my post, but a reasonable alternative to SCSI since most computers can will have a slot to handle a second I/O card. You also may have read on this forum about "not all SCSI cards are compatible" in the last few days. Do a text search for "SCSI" on this section.

John, *OT*

No, I haven't had any printing problems using the pass-thru port on the parallel port scanner. I have the printer cable go from the scanner pass-thru to an "A/B switch", because I have both an Okidata 9-pin printer for high speed printing, and an HP Deskjet 500.
