Most of the docs in question are in medieval Latin, which was the legal language in Lombardy (not in Tuscany, where Italian was used from the early 15th century on). Some are in Italian, or partly in Italian.

The only language I speak well (except for English) is Italian. My French is awful (though I read it reasonably well), my German sucks. Can puzzle out Spanish, and if forced at gunpoint, will try Dutch with a dictionary.

Holly, have you noticed there are not very many responses to my "dare"? I was sure that I would get dozens of responses saying what a great idea it would be to completely ban cigarettes in the USA.

Do you think they want us to continue to buy cigarettes but not smoke them?
