"U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, who is leading the talks for the administration, has stressed that a deal must enforce any commitments China makes. At a congressional hearing last week, he outlined a regular meeting process and the demand that the U.S. has the right to unilaterally retaliate if China violates the deal. The U.S. is also pressing China to refrain from any retaliation of its own if the U.S. reimposes tariffs, sources close to the talks said."

The US and only the US can demand that you hold still while we hit you in the face for behavior we can suddenly decide is bad, and we ask (because we hate to have to wobble about in public with a black eye) that you don't punch us in the face in return. :)

Amazing.

We may not get a deal. And it could run into next year before the markets find out. Always something.

Thanks for the link twd!
