Tax breaks aid Vivus' incursion into Ireland -- The Business Journal of San Jose amcity.com January 12, 1998 Health Care Roundup Tax breaks aid Vivus' incursion into Ireland ----------------------------------------------------------------- Rachelle C. Marquez Business Journal Staff Writer Vivus Ireland Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Menlo Park-based Vivus Inc., and the Irish Development Agency have completed an investment deal in which the Irish government will provide the company with tax breaks and benefits for the construction of a new facility in Ireland. The facility will be used to produce MUSE, a transurethral delivery system used to treat erectile dysfunction, or impotence. The $30 million production facility, to be financed by U.S. Vivus, will be located on a 30-acre site at Ireland Navan Business Park, just north of Dublin. The facility will create 250 jobs over three years. Construction, expected to last for 18 months, will begin in mid-1998. MUSE, approved in the United States and the United Kingdom, achieved U.S. sales of more than $129 million during 1997. "This production facility will be the focal point of Vivus' European presence, playing a central role in supplying our international markets as Vivus obtains further regulatory approvals outside the United States," said Leland Wilson, president and CEO of Vivus, and a director of Vivus Ireland. TokyoMex, they are still looking for someone to run the burrito stand at the construction site. <gg> Zebra PS: Lest some of you think this is just a racist Texan talking, Tokyo happens to sell burritos at his restuarant in Manhatten, in between stock trades.
