safer options are available
or
Killing time

This is a reprehensible statement after the events that have already transpired.
It is unimaginable what the families must feel reading this jackass explain that the new rules (time consuming and expensive for the railroads) should be avoided because "safer options are available". That is why there are 50 dead people from multiple incidents because "safer options are available". It is a shame that corporate head honchos instruct these soulless "I will say anything" mouthpieces to obfuscate facts so that the executives can take home bigger bonuses or the railroad can claim larger profits. These are reprehensible people focused on greed, the executives of these two railroads were paid millions of dollars each last year while the companies knocked back wages, cut hours laid off people and adopted money saving practices that are totally unsafe and irresponsible. Then they parade out asswipes like this guy explaining that "safer options are available". How about railroads stop cutting costs when it comes to safety, how about making safe crew changes, how about expanding the amount you spend on safety after Lac Megantic instead of going public to try and shore up your right to be irresponsible and unsafe. If there are safer options available and you opted not to use any of those safer methods but rather chose to kill your workers to save a few dollars then you all belong in prison. Please explain these "safer options that are available" and explain why they were not in use at the time of these incidents?

In a city notable for grossly overpaid executives, these railroad cretins make the most money.
