Zeev, I'm sure there must be a strong indication,, I don't know what my house is worth until I sell it , but I have a fairly close idea. If all the house sales are 40 to 50 % below what they were 5 years ago, would you lend me money based on the evaluation of 5 years ago. If one does not accept the paper loss, that does not mean they have not lost,even if there's no gun at their head , they're only dreaming.... russell

There are many news posts on Yahoo Financial this morning, many of which are contradictory to what has been explored on this thread. I found that the confusion is clearly seen in this post especially the last paragraph: biz.yahoo.com -- sorry this link is expired, but was posted at 8:53pm on the 19th and shows up right now on their site. "The BOJ's special uncollateralised loans to troubled financial institutions are unlikely to create excess liquidity in the markets, as the central bank is conducting daily operations to avoid such a situation, Matsushita said" I'm stupid, I must admit, but doesn't this say in effect "We are giving you the liquidity you need to be successful, but don't expect us to let you use it!" ???
