A few facts about Clarke County, NV since we have lived there 2/3 to 3/4 of the time ( when not in Argentina or traveling South of the border) over the past 2 1/2 years. 1. Nevada is tied for last in terms of wages. 2. Clarke County is composed of 1/3 Californians. 3. The reasons why most Californians and other transplants come to Nevada is for the low cost of living and tax free state. 4. Cost of living is only cheap in relation to CA and Northeast. In fact, Clarke County is not all that cheap in relation to rest of USA. 5. There is very little entrepreneurship in Clarke County. Most stores and businesses here are big box stores. 6. This is by in large a dead area in terms of intellectual activities and achievements. 7. the State is bipolar politically: locals are very redneck and conservative and transients and new people are progressive. That has translated into a very progressive political take over since 2016. 8. Guns are very big here, even among liberals and progressives. 9. The progressive political take over in Clarke County has been based on instinct and feeling. Hardly anyone talks about it. 10. Live and let live is the philosophy here. 11. Clarke County is in the top 5 counties in terms of outflows and inflows of people coming and leaving on a yearly basis. 12. Lots of people from Montana and Idaho live here during the Winter, which is more like Fall comparing it to NYC and New England. 13. There are a significant minority of retired, rich people who come to Clarke County, especially Henderson, to live out their senior years. It is very peaceful here, usually.
