After trying to curb Trump's bad instincts for two years, Chevron and others were informed a few weeks ago Trump would impose a ban on the import of Venezuelan crude oil - and this was no longer negotiable.

There's only so much you can do to influence a two year old having a tantrum. Venezuela's greatly reduced oil production will be bought by India and China.

Most of Venezuela's problems could have been avoided by continuing to maintain Venzuela's oil production and transport facilities, but Maduro and his cronies got greedy with the oil revenue and stopped funding new wells and maintenance.

As for the rest of Venezuela's problems, if you replace competent engineers and managers in all of you primary industries with uneducated but trusted political organizers, you have no hope of keeping your electrical grid and businesses operating.

Prior to that, if you decide to stop paying all of your competent people and abuse them, you'd best have a really big Berlin Wall to keep them all from escaping and getting jobs in other countries.

In 2000 the Realtors association of Miami gave Hugo Chavez an award for creating record sales of property to Venezuelans.
