I agree that revenue might not be the way to go. But the largest tech companies that are also
platform/operators... I think that's a category that deserves a hard look. I like a lot of things about
Warren, including her stance against 'predatory capitalism'. I think that's a discussion that's long
overdue, including the role of corporations in our elections and campaign finance.
Would I vote for her in the primary? Probably not. It's too soon to tell. As for WalMart, as you know my roots are in the rural midwest. Predatory capitalism put Walmart where they are today. The horse is long out of that barn but they were part of the rapid decline of small towns from Topeka to Bowling Green and the feds ignored it. To be specific, they would locate just outside the city limits of a small town and sell most of their products below cost for a year or two. Wiping out local and regional retailers. Then when they controlled the market and the local retail labor market as well, they raised prices and cut wages. They also threatened their suppliers who dared sell to local competitors, so you had local supermarkets left with no name brand products. Call it a local monopoly if you like. Sam Walton was brilliant and got away with murder. (and Bill Clinton was no help)
In some ways the Walmart effect even helped give us Trump. Rural people looking at the government seeing nothing but corruption and arrogance. Fertile fields for a demagogue who knew what buttons to push.
--- and that's my commentary for the evening, from the left :)
