Jane, as you mentioned about AIDS/HIV, the virus mutates approximately every three months. It is one of the fasting mutating virus that the medical profession knows of. Several years ago the question was asked about virus being able to survive in mosquitos. The reply was that currently no strains had been found that could live in the mosquitos' system, but - it was only a matter of time. One week, one year, 100 years, nobody really knows. It very likely will eventually happen.

One other note. Any virologist will tell you that all forms of viruses can be traced back to a parent virus. The only one that cannot is AIDS/HIV. It's been stated that the virus originally came from the Green Monkeys of Africa. It entered humans either by being bitten or the digestion of the meat by African natives.

But the virus itself cannot be traced. This has led some to question whether the orgins are of natural event or not?
