Did you get down that way this winter?

After watching so much NHK, I am obsessed with getting to Japan sometime soon....amazing place.

Some buddies of mine were skiing in Hokkaido a few weeks ago, in an area known for very deep snow. They came across an avalanche area that looked like it had had a very recent slide. They pulled out their avalanche transponders to check that just maybe someone might be in there... and they got a hit. They were able to locate and dig out a snowboarder that would have never gotten out on his own (and had he not also had a transponder on). He had already passed out from lack of air, but they got him back, and he rode out on his own....
