Good explanation Elroy as that's what my 737 747 captain brother told me except that the larger new engines were forward and lower (not higher).

SI is so good like this = combined input gets to the nitty gritty.

As you pointed out, the single failure angle of attack sensor meant pilots had to turn off the convenient auto trim switch, assume control and aviate. If the switch off also didn't work that would be a big problem.
