3/22/2019 Contest update A new market meme took hold on Friday and it wasn’t winsome. Stocks were trashed with biotechs especially hard hit. And, of course, there was the failure of Biogen’s Alzheimer’s drug. So, all things considered, the Contest median held up well. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 21.38% YTD (vs. 21.73% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 11.68% YTD (vs. 17.86% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 21.87% YTD (vs. 26.70% YTD a week ago) and the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 15.18% YTD (vs. up 15.87% YTD a week ago). Despite Friday’s damage, Contest leader BULBA’s portfolio, up 78.64% YTD, managed to add a few more percentage points by week’s end. OHM’s portfolio, up 50.37% YTD, held on to second place while RKRW’s portfolio, up 49.00%, moved up to third place. At Friday's close, 36 of the 39 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 29 beating the Biogen-battered NBI and 18 beating the SPSIBI. The 167 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 28.64% and a median YTD gain of 17.88%. Below is the Top Ten list.
