DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 20, 1998--

New Modem Delivers High Performance For Telecommuting, Internet Access and Remote Office Connectivity

Efficient Networks, Inc., a leading supplier of ATM over xDSL customer premises equipment (CPE), today introduced a new ATM-based ADSL modem that utilizes the popular carrierless amplitude phase (CAP) line encoding and the rate adaptive digital subscriber line (RADSL) chipset. The new product, which will be demonstrated live at ComNet (Jan. 27-29 in Washington D.C.), delivers up to 8Mbps downstream access speed for teleworking, remote LAN connectivity and Internet access. Called the SpeedStream(TM) 5030, the new ATM over CAP ADSL modem is designed for use as an outboard CPE device and includes a single 10Base-T Ethernet port. The new modem functions as an Ethernet bridge, providing an ideal solution for remote users requiring high speed access. The modem's front panel provides visual monitoring, and the modem is easily managed either from a local site or remotely. Efficient Networks' SpeedStream 5030 utilizes GlobeSpan Semiconductor Inc.'s RADSL CAP chipset. The modem platform is capable of supporting future routing and tunneling features. "The SpeedStream 5030 expands our existing line of CPE products, and reinforces our support for both DMT and CAP physical layers," said Greg Langdon, vice president of marketing for Efficient Networks. "The SpeedStream product line now includes a full range of easy to deploy ADSL adapters and modems designed as ideal CPE solutions for service providers." Efficient Networks is offering its SpeedStream products through various channels, including volume private label OEM agreements and standard reseller agreements for the Efficient brand.

Pricing & Availability

Efficient Networks SpeedStream 5030 ATM over CAP ADSL adapter is list priced at $1,095 with trial units available in Q1 1998 and general availability scheduled for Q2 1998. OEM pricing is provided for volume quantities.
