The head of the pilots union in the US, American Airlines captain Dennis Tajer, said, "We've seen insidious marketing of aircraft to accommodate less experienced and perhaps a lower grade of pilot."

Both Airbus and Boeing have been selling their "easy to learn and easy to use flight controls".

The AirBus flight computer interprets your input as a percentage of what is possible rather than giving you direct control of the flight control surfaces. The pilot suggests and the flight computer flies with the assumption you want to fly rather than tear the aircraft apart.

In a Boeing the pilot flies the plane and the MCAS correction system for pitch-up is very much like my first car with SBS Stability Control.

1.) I could turn off SBS Stability Control with a button and have "full control";

2.) if I left SBS on and the back of the vehicle began to slide out in a turn - there was a sudden loud bang as some of the brakes briefly activated and my car jumped back into alignment with the road like someone had given the back end of my car a hard kick. I laughed the first time it happened, it was such a kick and so unexpected, even though I was trying to activate it.
