Sun Tzu,

You can't have what you want. Not now anyway. It took 25 years to destroy the political norms. You can't fix it with some magical "transcendental leader"

You should learn from experience. How did Obama's "Big Tent" approach work out?

Win enough times to establish a new normal. Then and only then, after you have established the new norm, gradually reduce the polarization. This will automatically happen anyway as the older generation dies and the new adopt to the normal.
You may be right. But Obama's problem may have been more related to the major problems that needed to be fixed right away when he took office. But, I think, at least initially, he and his team lacked the political skill to keep the coalition together. It didn't help that the media, IMO, turned on him. And the Dems, and the media, let the Republicans control the message about health care and saving jobs so that the things that he had done were turned into negatives and they were constantly on the defensive about things.

All IMO, but I think one of the biggest problems right now is FOX news. It is operating as a propaganda wing of the Republican party. It is a safe place for Republicans to go and get their message across. And no matter how wrong their message is, or how little based in reality that message is, it is supported as fact to their viewers. I think one of the things that has lead to this happening is getting rid of the fairness rules that the media used to have, that both sides needed to be given fair time on the network.

Anyway, this is all conjecture on all our parts. We will have to see how things play out. I don't think anyone would have guessed that this is where we would be 10 years after Obama was first elected to the presidency.
