"Go with the one who has the most passionate supporters."

Great- and we will get another demagogue.

How about, go with the candidate with the broadest base of support- because that would be nice. Also, none of that means shit if the election is stolen again by Russians or people aren't allowed to vote because of voter suppression. Just sayin'.

Banana "democracies" are like that.

But hey- you get passionate enough people, maybe we can have riots in the streets like other banana republics!

Sun Tzu,

Your argument makes no sense at all. On one hand you say that a "Democrat Trump" will be a one term president because he will alienate the center (ignoring the fact that there is no center in a polarized country). On the other hand you are worried that Trump may be reelected.
It does makes sense if you feel that the middle in this country still exists. They have just been forced to one of the sides which may not be to their liking. If you pick someone that is too far to the left, which, to me, is what you described, you may force them to vote for a Trump like candidate and then they will take the election. Now, that may not have been what you meant when you described your candidate but that is what I took from what you wrote.

I don't think you have to appeal to racists and the like to win a bigger consensus. Again, just my opinion.
