Sun Tzu,

<<No it doesn't make sense even if there is a middle.>>

In my mind it does. If my writing is inadequate to do so or, so be it.

<<Is Trump alienating them and pushing them towards Democrats?

Yes, then you don't need to worry about Trump being reelected. No, then you don't have to worry that a "Democrat Trump" will alienate them and be a one term president.

You can't have it both ways.>>

I don't see it having it both ways.

Your statement 1 is what we have in the absence of a chosen Democratic candidate. In the abstract, we have anything is better than Trump until we see what that anything is.

Your statement 2 is where "Democrat Trump" gets nominated and alienates enough of this middle to go back towards Republican Trump or convinces enough of the populace not to vote. I view the population as a spectrum of voters and how that spectrum gets distributed will be dependent on the choices available.

What if you have to choose a red or blue sneaker. If you like red or blue, the choice is easy. But let us say there is the middle, those that like purple or violet and don't really like red or blue. They will choose the sneaker that they like better or offends them less. Or they won't choose one at all. And it will depend on what choice of red or blue they have.

You can have the last word.
