Conference winners (auto-berths)

<< Not much respect given to winning your conference. IE Auburn, Iowa State >>

... or defending champ Villanova who just won its 3rd consecutive Big East and finished the year ranked 25th in the NCAA. .

The Nova Wildcats (25-9) earned the automatic NCAA bid after winning the Big East Tournament championship Saturday night with a 74-72 victory over Seton Hall at Madison Square Garden.

They are the 6 seed in the South region of the NCAA Tournament, taking on Saint Mary’s (Calif) on Thursday in Hartford, Conn. Saint Mary’s upset Gonzaga to win the West Coast Conference tournament and earn a bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Not bad in a rebuilding year.

Back when UConn was in it, I watched a heck of a lot more games than I do now. I'm basically in crash course mode to figure out which teams to pick. It's too bad everyone's picks are private until the tournament starts, or else I'd just pick the opposite of Bill.

I'm also unsure of what to think about Duke. Williamson is for sure a beast in the paint, and an amazing relentless defender, but he can't shoot foul shots and his 3pt% is woeful. Yes, he for sure makes Duke better, but all it seems it will take to beat Duke is a team that shoots lights out from behind the arc for just one game in the tournament. UVa chokes every year in the tournament, and I can't remember one time they didn't. UNC is really good as always, but not great. Gonzaga could get knocked off by a number of teams in its bracket. Hmm...
