>>>This is the *only* way that I have seen and used. I'm not sure how else I would use this capability. I can drag windows across from monitor to monitor transparently ... ala the Mac. (Who *did* have this for years ...) Is there another way that this would work?<<<

NT has enough multiuser stuff in it's core to let several people have sessions on different boards with some work. I believe this is actually a product - it was being touted quite loudly 6 months ago on this thread, but I think it fell down. I'm not sure. I believe Reg was the one who brought up the subject of that. Ask Reg.

As far as '98 is concerned, I don't know. You used to see this trick at every siggraph from 1985 on, till that became a movie fx show. I have seen it done on Sequents (around 1993) to demo their parallelism in NT via dual monitor displays as well.

The text-only second monitors you can use in NT for debugging require a second card. We used to use Hercules cards, I don't remember why, it's been a while.

Seems like you always used to see this stuff in the back of magazines that produced items like second displays for kiosks and sales presentations and that kind of thing. And the backs of Byte and Infoworld, long ago.

I actually did a driver for a second board once, for Targa on the PC for a distance video education app, but it was for SCO. I think Radius bought Truevision out (from ATT)? I recall them company vendor program used to put out a brochure with all the little development houses names that did stuff like that. The targa plus, for instance, can actually be programmed directly into the apps virtual memory space.

Today this info is probably on the web.
