I had a grand a year scholarship and went to Northeastern Boston. In that it was Co-OP I worked 6 months of the year. The pay covered my school expenses. The job was at the Naval Underwater Systems Center where each Co-OP session was at a different group.

I quickly discovered very little of what was taught made me any smarter an Engineer. I went to most classes and took notes, Never really studied, just reviewed notes for exams. But the job engineering tasks I was given were very educational. And the early gofa tasks were exceptionally useful as I learned how to manage all the processes needed to get whatever resources were needed today and not in month's

One year I had a required course at 8am and was not a morning person. Nevertheless, I showed up for tests and always made one of the top couple of grades in the class.

When the 9 week grades (1/2 way) came out, people met me on the stairs and said, you are going to be pissed!

He had posted a big fat F with the note “Come See Me”, which I promptly did.

I was put on notice that if I thought I could skip the lectures and learn this material well enough for an A I had another think coming.

I told him I understood, didn’t miss anymore lectures, and got the A. But I sure was sleepy. Hard to stay up all night reading and working problems when you have to be in class at 8am!
