If you consider the "Climate Change" as a personified enemy, the enemy's locally violent numerous assaults (violent weathers) are really a distraction, to hide the real threat from us. The real threat will be the widespread deprivation of resources -- food, habitat, ... that the Earth becomes one giant Easter Island first, and then if the temperature keeps on rising with the entire carbon sources under the permafrost escaping into the atmosphere and the Earth becomes finally the close sister of Venus, and all life forms vanish from the Earth (C or D below). Locally violent weathers, however destructive it may be, are still local. The climate deniers will still deny it as long as they are alive and have food to eat. Humans will not be able to save the Earth from it becoming the next Venus. Stephen Hawking recognized the Humans as the (only) intelligent life form in the Universe. He saw the need to preserve this intelligent life form from disappearing, even after the inevitable total destruction of Earth. So, he advocated for finding space colonies and transporting humans there where they sustain the life and preserve the only intelligent life form in the Universe even after the Earth becomes like Venus at 482F.
