Sorry, I'm an engineer and I solve problems.

While you feel good about your efforts, you solved no problems. There are 5B poor people on the planet and you comforted a couple of dozen. Maybe a hundred.

But don't worry, with the food and healthcare you provide, there will soon be 7B poor people on the planet. And after that, there will be 9B poor people on the planet. All wanting more food and more healthcare.

It is sad to say, but all your efforts will only result in more misery and more tragedy in the future.

Let me know when you solve world hunger while the planet's human population doubles.

“You appear to believe being born into a privileged situation, where you have enjoyed the benefits of all the advantages, somehow entitles you to deprive the smallest increment of those advantages to people who were not born with them.”

Someone enjoying the benefits and advantages he created is not depriving anyone of anything. It is his choice to share the abundance of his creation, you didn’t build that, he did. If you are worried about freezing to death in the dark go out and chop some firewood or move to Venezuela and let the government take care of you.

Just like you and me.

Why compare me to you? I don't recall making such a vile personal attack toward you. Nor do I burn American flags or fart in public.

That is commendable and I salute you for it. As a country, we can do plenty to help Latin America, through volunteer work and more. So Heywood, one of the things I disagree with liberals on is this. Liberals focus all their time and energy on volunteering. It's a laudable thing and I think their hearts are in the right place. I do a lot more volunteer work myself, now that I am retired. But in my prime working years, you know what I did? I worked my ass off to make money and hire people. I hired a LOT of educated, hard working Latin Americans in my time, promoted them, gave them large raises and bonuses, and advocated for them with other executives. I think I did far more good for those Latin Americans than anyone who had volunteered to give them free stuff.

So that is my main point. Latin Americans need JOBS. Not the slave labor jobs that they can get by sneaking over the border illegally, then getting employed illegally as field hands on farms or doing your lawn, and getting exploited as slaves by their employers, because they are too afraid to call in to the authorities. NO. That is not what they need. What they need is the US to create a massive American trade bloc, where we create prosperity for ALL Americans, North, Central, and South. Then they won't want to come here, because they can stay in their native lands and make plenty of money there. How many Colombians are moving here as compared to Venezuelans, Hondurans, and Nicaraguans? Colombia is doing fantastically, because they have a great partnership with the US. The other countries are doing terribly because they do not and have embraced Socialism and Dictatorship instead. Capitalism and Trade with the US is the solution. Not revolution, drug wars, Socialism, and all that other non-sense.

At the end of the day, volunteering in Latin America is a small step and will make you feel good. It might even make Latin Americans feel good briefly. But it doesn't solve their problem. It is too little. We need to think VERY big and do things at scale, as Trump and this country are fully capable of. Trump took the first step with Bolsonaro and Brazil. He needs to go all the way with Latin America. We need an Americas Free Trade Zone and rewritten rules for Latin immigration, as well as secure US and Latin American borders.

Heywood, there's a huge difference between being personally charitable and forcing others to be "charitable."

The former is admirable. We should all strive to be that way.

The latter is selfish and vain. You're taking what doesn't belong to you in order to signal your virtues.
