Devin Nunes Sues Twitter for Allowing Accounts to Insult Him

My opinion on it at the time... was that there seemed to be more to it than the media wanted to say... the New York Times especially... mostly centered around the issue of :

Experts generally say the law protects large internet platforms like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube from liability based on what their users publish. Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act says they should not “be treated as the publisher or speaker” of the content — allowing the platforms to exist without having to preapprove every post for potential legal issues.

The sites benefiting from exclusions in the law... have been testing the boundaries by claiming the exemptions as "not publishers" while also taking action that has them behaving like publishers...

Avoiding liability for editorial choices.... requires not exercising editorial control... beyond what the law requires.

But, the platforms have been exercising editorial control... while claiming they aren't...

Whatever problem that creates for Nunes personally... or politically... that's not the primary issue.

The issue is the platforms being "not a publisher" when that's convenient... but acting like a publisher when there's a benefit they seek to obtain by imposing choices that create limits... that censor particular opinions... or limit the ability of some to express their opinions... or otherwise punish them for expressing legally acceptable opinions that the platform, for whatever reason, deems unfavorable...
