Who makes laser transmitters and Large Effective Area Fiber?

Laser transmitters are made by many companies so that is not news. Corning Inc. makes the LEAF fiber but from what I can tell it is fairly new. It's still being discussed in technical conferences as people are still characterizing its performance.

I'm not sure how important this new fiber is to todays network. Most network architectures are limited in bandwidth by present day optical amplifiers and optical components. This new fiber would require special components to be designed. Of course, Corning does this also.

It appears that some Japanese companies are building similar fiber. Fujikura and Sumitomo Electric are two companies that are reporting similar fiber testing. However, I believe that Corning supplies more fiber than anyone else.
