Unfortunately true. The Kospi was as high as 760
in early August 1997, before the S-E Asia melt-down.

In dollar terms it 's even more appalling
(less that 1000 won to the dollar , as late
as beginning of november 1997; now even with
a substantial recovery it's still about 1700 won )

I'm confident though that :
(i) the people are serious about getting their act together
(ii) Kim-Dae-Jung is the right guy and he seems
to make clear to the chaebols top managers that
transparent p&l accounting is the name of the game.
