The ongoing arrests and renditions to China of Hong Kong booksellers involve Chinese politics I know little about.

And I strongly suspect China's retaliatory actions against Sweden are directly linked to the fact that Sweden continues to champion human rights in China, rather than the fact that Ericcson is based in Sweden.

But Sweden's recall of their ambassador to China, Anna Lindstedt, is easy to understand. She cooperated with China's deep-state security to try to intimidate the daughter of one of those China has arrested. This is wholly unacceptable behaviour for a diplomat, even though she may have been used unwittingly. Letting yourself be used by a foreign government means she's the wrong person for the job.

While Sweden has happy to see the loss-making Volvo automobiles with a new owner, Sweden is not going to allow China to take any additional ownership of the Volvo truck division which also holds defense components.
