Hey, here is an open ended question for you. You seem fairly knowledgeable about home theatre/music systems, so maybe you've got a good answer.

I'll be returning to the USA in about a year, and I want to purchase a great new home stereo system. I currently play music using iTunes on a PC into a BigJambox single speaker. I want to change it so that the PC will still control the music, but it will come out of a living room sounds system that is hopefully also hooked up to a TV.

Where do you go these days to get advice on what system to buy, and have a look? When I left the US in 2000 we used to go to Circuit City or shops like that. Aren't they all out of business? Where would you recommend someone find out about what is currently available, and what is best for personal circumstances?

Also, do you recommend buying a system, or buying individual receiver/speakers/etc, and putting them together yourself?
