Thanks for the thoughtful reply. However, I prefer the market determining an individual's worth rather than goverment fiat.

Others believe as an axiom that government is altrusistic and will work for the "common good". These abstractions are used every day to justify some new incursion of government into our privacy and liberty (income redistribution, rehabilitation, 'equal opportunity', etc.)

I have come to believe that the former is false and the latter does not even exist but has been reified into a tangible thing in peoples' minds'.To quote Don Henley, '...we've been poisoned by these fairy tales."

My point exactly.

Aren't other peoples' liberties are impaired when the government uses coercion to presumably achieve redress on behalf of a group?

Rather, IMO, individuals who feel discriminated against regardless of race, etc. have the tort system to redress their individual claims.
