Re J Horgan's "The End of Science"

Its just beginning. Its not a matter of where or if there are breakthroughs... its a matter of disposable income and wealth in a society that's aging, willing to spend for extending the onset of mortality... and a world that expects solutions to disease to be as forthcoming as solutions to colonizing the moon.

My own view of cancer is that its causes are so varried that finding the magic bullet is a pipe dream.

I'd rather put out someone's cigarette for example, than contribute to smoker's cancer research. I'd rather shut down a chemical plant's production than have to pay billions later on to treat the mutagen fallout.

Its a hard line I suppose, but there is so much that can be accomplished on the Input side of the equation to living a healthy life... "an ounce of prevention equals a pound of cure."

Thanks for the thorough references to LGND.
