Right, but suppose a politician says, “I saw the CBO score in 1964 Na the one for 1990.” (Referring to Medicare).

And politifact decides it is false, on the basis there was no CBO. This has appeared at the top of one of thei pages for at least a couple years.

Technically it is correct, but the politician was clearly referring to CBO's predecessor at Ways and Means, which performed the same job.

Who's lying here, from a practical standpoint? Shouldn’t readers have had that information?

At this moment CNN is reporting that even though Mueller found no evidence of obstruction that doesn’t mean there wasn’t any. Well, right. They found no evidence of pencil theft but there could have been some.

We'll we what WaPo says but I’d wager it is close to CNN's lie.

I have not found a media outlet whose word I can take, which really means they are for entertainment, not news. NYT is among the worst.

Sometimes it is apparent like today, but more often it is “CNN has it from 20 anonymous sources”.
