Worswick: I know my dad was a state 'senator' (Member of the Legislative Assembly) for some 15-20 years. He wasn't a Commie though. He started taking a keen interest in politics while in law college while the Brits were still trying to hold on to the country. He got involved in the Freedom movement and was an active participant, spend some 5 years in jail in his 20s. In his younger days he resorted to violent methods against the colonialist in line with Subash Chandra Bose's credo and as he grew older employed less violent and more passive approach. After the idependence he took an active role in convincing the maharaja of Kochi to join the union.

On a lighter note, he never got 'rich' by being a politician (he had to practice law to do that),I guess political corruption wasn't as fashionable as it is today. The biggest reward he got was the recognition from the Government of India for his contribution for the freedom movement of India.
