Micron Electronics Ships SystemSoft's SystemWizard On New Sub-$1,000 PC Product Line

BusinessWire, Tuesday, January 20, 1998 at 06:21

NAMPA, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 20, 1998--

Industry-Leading Problem Resolution Software Provides Differentiation;
Improves Usability Through Faster, Easier Technical Support

Making its first foray into the sub-$1,000 PC market, Micron
Electronics, Inc. (NASDAQ:MUEI) today announced it is including
SystemWizard(TM), the industry's most comprehensive problem-resolution
software family from SystemSoft(r) Corporation (NASDAQ:SYSF) on its
new Micron(TM) Millennia(r) Special Edition (SE) desktop PC introduced
today (see separate release).
By bundling SystemWizard on its sub-$1,000 PCs, Micron users will
be able to automatically resolve common computing problems, thereby
eliminating the time, cost and hassle of calling technical support. In
addition, SystemWizard provides fast and easy access to solutions
regarding set-up and usage issues, particularly those encountered by
first time or novice users.
"Realizing that the emergence of the sub-$1,000 PC opens the door
for first-time users, Micron Electronics is relying on SystemSoft's
SystemWizard to help our customers improve their overall PC usage
experience," said Micron Electronics Vice President of Desktops
Jeffrey K. Moeser. "By automatically diagnosing and resolving
thousands of common computing problems, SystemWizard gives Micron PCs
a level of differentiation and a competitive advantage. SystemWizard
also helps Micron customers address a primary concern when purchasing
new PCs: fast and easy technical support."
"As our OEM partners move into the sub-$1,000 PC category,
SystemWizard plays an increasingly critical role in helping OEMs
reduce support costs and increase user satisfaction -- key elements
for successfully competing in this market," said Robert F. Angelo,
chairman and chief executive officer of SystemSoft. "Micron's decision
to bundle SystemWizard on its new PCs speaks volumes about the
customer satisfaction and reduced support cost benefits that
SystemWizard provides."
Since February 1997, Micron has shipped SystemWizard as a
standard on its Micron's Millennia MME and Home MPC(TM) product lines,
and recently expanded this agreement to include SystemWizard on
several additional desktop platforms.
Demonstrating the value that SystemWizard provides, last summer,
Micron announced results of an independent customer survey, which
showed measurable improvements in Micron's customer satisfaction and
technical support call volume and usability. The survey revealed that
a majority of Micron customers used SystemWizard to solve their PC
problem without calling Micron technical support, and that overall,
Micron users independently achieved a problem-resolution success rate
of more than 70 percent with SystemWizard. The survey also revealed
that 84 percent of Micron customers preferred a PC with SystemWizard
pre-installed.

simultaneously over a single telephone line. SystemWizard requires
