Xi is a "George W. Bush style bureaucrat" contending with fragmented internal constituency groups who have a multitude of conflicting goals - many hoping for and believing in objectives which are not even possible, or even plausible to an objective observer.

Xi understands the true danger lies in visionaries like Mao who "have the Big Plan", "the vision-thing" George W. called it. True believers are always the danger because their belief shuts down correctly perceiving and understanding feedback from reality which conflicts with their big scheme.

Like all in his position, Xi is on the bridge of a supertanker (which are all under-powered and have an extremely slow response time - coupled with frightening levels of momentum). So he can't afford the luxury of a long-term plan other than trying to keep the system operating without major catastrophic incidents caused by sudden changes with unforeseen results.
.

Trump is dealing with a nearly identical set-up, but believes there's an obvious and simple solution to each problem - which always proves not to be the case. So, following his life-long pattern of behavior, Trump jumps hamster-like from one advocacy group to another looking for the group which represents "the true magic solution" - which in fact does not exist. Not surprisingly Trump has left in his wake a string of bankruptcies, failures, and below-standard performance by any measure other than his own estimation.

Most of Trump's supporters would be doing the hamster-dance themselves in the same situation, rather than dealing with reality, so they admire his execution of the hamster-dance and his leaping and creeping dance stye - not caring so much for now that he's achieving little or nothing, because they themselves have experienced lifetimes of achieving little or nothing themselves. Their life is the hamster-dance, not any particular achievement other than their participation medal for attending the dance.

Xi is merely responding to Canada by playing the game Canada tee-ed up, except more honestly, or as you noted, transparently, just so that team Canada does not misinterpret messaging

Having a meandering day, did some serious work in the am, had a spot of light lunch, followed on two hours of nasty reflexology, and now a spot of hot cocoa in central, and to send off some e-mails, before gathering w/ the boys to talk gold and eat Peking duck and other servings

Would observe that any observer see parallel between core comrade Xi and chief twitter Trump understand neither and cannot appreciate what’s coming

Xi is doing his thing, that which can be summed up as strategic composure

Trump, per Bannon, shall go full-animal

Both protocols should work to hit the spots, albeit different spots

Fantastic 2020 shaping up

Would say trump is tailor made for jetson

Btw, I believe trump has an excellent chance to win and win big
