Agree with you on the news agencies.. I am speaking specifically wrt folks electing government mainly the prez in your case PM in my case on the promise of what they will do for the country.. I guess many on your end think that the prez is like Jean Luc Picard.. needing only to say Make it so... .. Not so different here... On the thought of in spite of government.. without it you would have no law.. (even if justice system not great) and hence be the United states of Dystopia.. If government worked for the people that would be great... but it was designed to work for the 1%... We the people were a terribly small select group.. happier no doubt with an oligarchy but they needed a carrot to get boots on the ground for the nasty stuff...There is nnot much 'in spite of'' because the government accomplishes little.. on the topic of culture.. Well thank you very much for the Kardashians... <ng> OK a low blow ... Highest imprisonment rate of any nation... What's the matter here ? Tertiary education rate ? No not so good.. Life expectancy... far from what one would expect from the Beautiful country (Chinese name for US) Infant mortality On par with Croatia... For the minority life is great..
