From a die-hard Bronco Fan (I have to admit, I didn't write it):
'Twas the day of the Superbowl, when all through the land Bronco fans were cheering the task at hand; The beer and pretzels were all delivered with care, In hopes that Denver victory soon would be there;
The bets were laid with and without the spreads, While visions of world champions danced in their heads; And mamma in her jersey, and I in my cap, Had just settled down for the coin toss and first snap,
After the kickoff the Broncos began to scatter, I sprang from my recliner to better see the matter. Away to the wedge Hebron flew like a flash, Tore up the turf with a cut, a juke, and a slash.
The Broncos were psyched up and looked fierce and mean Gave a luster of beauty on my 52 inch screen, When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a man called Elway, and a runningback named Terrell,
With the greatest quarterback, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment this would be an ass-kick. More rapid than eagles his receivers they came, And he audibled, and shouted, and called them by name;
"Now, SHARPE! now, SMITH! now, McCAFFERY and CARSWELL! On, DAVIS! on GREEN! on, HEBRON and LOVILLE! To the top of the post! to the end of the route! Now catch the ball! catch the ball! catch the ball , no doubt!"
I witnessed the ground attack and aerial assault, The broncos were on a roll; wasn't the Packer's fault, The Pack's "D" struggled and our receivers, they flew, With "TD" chewing up the yardage, and John Elway too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the TV The commentators making excuses why the Pack seemed empty. As I grabbed for my beer, and was turning around, Into the endzone Terrell went with a bound.
Elam added the extra point with the accuracy of his foot, The devastation shook the Packers down to the root; Farve on his first play from scrimmage landed on his back, And he looked up at Neil Smith who got his first sack.
Brett's eyes -- like a deer in headlights, his nerves now shook! This Superbowl thumping would be one for the book! Our defense was swarming and stopping everything they threw, Levens, Farve, and Freeman were panicking and didn't have a clue;
Our game-plan shook Holmgren all the way to his teeth, The tension he felt encircled his head like a wreath; He was confused and amazed and felt the pain in his belly, The Broncos were eating his offense like a bowl full of jelly.
Five tries, too many years and well worth waiting for, And oh the joy of the games final score; Analysts and pundits were amazed, but not me, For the little white lights on the scoreboard read 38 - 23;
He spoke not a word, and took a Gatorade shower, Shanahan's genius was an unbridled power. The offensive line the best in the nation, Finally spoke to the press about the cheery situation;
He sprang to the locker room, to his fans gave a wave, And turned and thanked them for the support they gave. I watched the post game as we all waited to see, The tears in John Elway's eyes as he kissed the Lombardi Trophy. |
