"College costs began to rise precipitously at the precise moment that Obama dis-intermediated banks from students "

Can you pick out that spot?

College costs began to rise precipitously at the precise moment that Obama dis-intermediated banks from students and the government. The minute Obama made the government the backstop for student loans, colleges saw that as an open invitation to raise prices, and boy did they ever. That is the fact of the matter and I will never forget it. I remember when he did it, because I told a friend of mine that the cost of college was about to experience massive inflation due to Obama's government intervention.

When is that precise moment college costs began to rise precipitously?

Not so certain this is true. It didn't help but easy money has been around for a long time and yes it is the cause of out of control higher education costs.

I started at a state school in '79. The in state tuition was $1k per year and room and board was something like $3.5k. Now at the same school the tuition is $11k and the room and board is about $12k. Crazy.
