Brian, thanks for pointing out the cvus link. Seems to be a lot of info there. I have always thought that POP was defined as number of channels times population coverage, but like you, do not know how to account for the difference in bandwidth. Several interesting links on the cvus thread that everyone may want to check out. The following link to the FCC points out at the bottom of the article that the 39 gig band is also suitable for LMDS.

Regards to all,

Brian,

The number Bernard calculated for me on the CVUS thread was that one WinStar channel of 100 MHz at 38 GHz was approximately equal to 85 MHz of bandwidth at 28 GHz. Therefore the 1150MHz for LMDS would be approximately 13 channels (ie 1150 MHz at 28 GHz is approximately equal to 1300 MHZ at 38 GHz.). To convert any bids into equivalent channel pops I guess we could just divide them by 13. The minimum LMDS bid of $2.25 per population would then be only approximately 17 cents per channel POP. This would value WinStar's 900 M channel POP's at only $150M (at the minimum bid). Seems the minimum bid is extremely low, however prices in the major markets will probably go for several times the minimum. I guess somebody needs to start putting WinStar's channels per city into a spread sheet so that when the LMDS bids come in per city we'll have some sort of direct comparison.

Bidders on LMDS had to be registered today. It looks as if the auction will go off as scheduled. Gave a good boost to CVUS stock today. CVUS still is looking like a pretty good one month play just based on hype and their license value. Any thoughts? Any temptation to play yourself?
