"A newborn cannot have its life discontinued at the insistence of the parent"

It can have its life-support discontinued. The age of the patient really doesn't matter. The parents of a new-born and the power-of-attorney child of an elderly patient can both tell the doc, "Enuf; comfort care, but no more intervention."
