This press release was put out (IMO) to point out the difference between IFMX and its competitors. First, it points out that IFMX has 1000 more customers for customer extensible data types (read the former IUS, now repackaged) than Oracle, Sybase or Microsoft. They simply are not shipping that capability, and IFMX is not only shipping on both Unix and NT, but has 1,000 paying customers. This is particularly a "tweek" at Larry, making a general point to customers, and keeping a running count in front of the journalists and other industry experts. In contrast, what does the competition have except something for the slide projector (Microsoft is not even that far along). Besides, it is a long time to numbers release (over 2 weeks), and most of the time, they try to offset bad numbers with good news released at the same time or a day later.
