Juniper and All--Papken did sound reassuring on the call. He commented on the strong verbal expressions of interest he had received from manufacturers hoping to gear up for .25 micron in 1998. Nonetheless, the book-to-bill was extremely weak (around .93), so Papken may need to convert those verbal expressions of interest into signed orders in order to have the stock regain favor on Wall Street.

Analysts don't seem to be making sense here....on the one hand,
they project 1.66 through 9/98, and 2.37 the next year,
while on the other the
recommendations are 1-strong buy;2-buy;3-hold...you have to get the
feeling they don't believe their own recs.

Anyway, I like that they beat estimates this Q and they are on
an accelerating eps/margin track for the last several quarters
(according to SI profile.)

What's their edge over the much larger cos. in their market? Do
they have a special something that keeps cos. like Intel
coming back? I keep reading how good ASM steppers are and how
they are expanding market share despite being more expensive...
sounds a little worrying.
