Like the inevitable stories about "The First Baby of the New Year" --- who, I always thought, was the stupidist baby of the year as his timing hoses ma's and pa's tax deduction by minutes.... Madness from lower-food-chain reaction to lightweight New Year's Eve filler stories --- tailored to newspapers' end-of-year "human interest" content needs (multiplied, this year, by proximity to the Big Millenium Event and general continuing taste for Apocolypse Now).
