>> We don't know what happened at Chappaquiddick.

We damned sure do. Instead of getting help, he left Ms. Kopechne to suffocate in that car over a three hour period. We know that much.

From your favorite, most reliable source, Wikipedia, the first paragraph:

The Chappaquiddick incident was a single-vehicle car accident that occurred on Chappaquiddick Island in Massachusetts on Friday, July 18, 1969. [4] [5] The late-night accident was caused by Senator Ted Kennedy's negligence and resulted in the death of his 28-year-old passenger Mary Jo Kopechne, who was trapped inside the vehicle. [6] [7] [8] [9]

For three hours that poor woman tried to scratch her way out of that car. Three hours.
