I am not a socialist at heart by any means. But the US could do much better on health care for the people that it does. Costs will never come down without nationalization of hospitals. Making them at cost, profit neutral. But socialism for healthcare is the only solution, damn right
My scepticism of socialized medicine is not ideological as much as borne from personal experience.

We do have socialized medicine in the US: its called the military and Veteran's Administration health care systems.

Perhaps the active duty military system has improved since my time, but the VA medical system is a dysfunctional mess.

I have friends who go to the VA because they really can't afford private care. Personally, I would have to be homeless and lying in the VA parking lot before I would let a VA doctor touch me.

If the government can't straighten out the relatively small VA mess, what hope is there that they could ever manage a nationalized health care system?
