Paul:

I would get an I-Omega Zip drive and Norton Utilities 3.0. NU has Zip Rescue, which lets you boot from a Zip Disk directly into windows. This saved my life 6 weeks ago when my registry was corrupted. You can reinstall a saved copy of the registry and get back up and running in about 15 minutes.

The Zip Drive isn't the best for backup (100 MB per disk), but it lets you save the files you need in bulk; I back up the "My documents" folder and my email.

Good luck
