<..Major resistance at 15 and then some at 17...> 15 seems more significant, but this thing has been a rocket. On the plus side, everybody is upgrading it and it's up on HUGE volume. On the cautionary side (note Neiberg's comments, which parallel Noel's): =========== <A> Aware Surges 27% On Reports Of Joining Modem Consortium NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Shares of Aware Inc. (AWRE) rose 27.2% Tuesday, and one analyst credited the surge to news reports that said the company's technology is to be used by a consortium led by major technology companies in an effort to develop faster modem transmissions. The group, which is to be led by Microsoft Corp. (MSFT), Intel Corp. (INTC) and Compaq Computer Corp. (CPQ), aims to promote a standard for asynchronous digital subscriber line, or ADSL, technology, which has the potential to drastically speed up Internet transmissions to PC users through telephone lines. The news was initially reported by The New York Times. In a research note, Furman Selz analyst Michael Neiberg said Aware's "splitterless" technology is believed to be a "key part" of the new standard. The technology should make setting up ADSL lines as easy as installing an analog modem, the analyst said. Neiberg, who upgraded Aware to buy from neutral, went on to say that the endorsement of major computer vendors may cause other chipset manufacturers to license Aware's products. But the analyst also cautioned that the revenue stream depends on actual lines deployed and whether Aware technology is used somewhere in the platform. The consortium will help put pressure on local telephone companies to accelerate delivery of the service, Neiberg said, but ADSL lines must be deployed for Aware to benefit. Aware closed at 14 5/16, up 3 1/16, on Nasdaq volume of 2.0 million, compared with average daily volume of 141,200. Company officials couldn't immediately be reached for comment. ========
