Severe thunderstorm weather for the mid-Atlantic states is not the normal state of affairs for November.

The November hurricane situation in the Atlantic is even less the normal state of affairs.
Sure there's La Nina this Fall.
But still...it's only just mid Fall. La Nina doesn't cover it all. All-time record hurricane years don't occur every La Nina. Nor does it North American snow cover high marks at this time of year.

And Joe R mentions that Lake Superior will be seeing weather similar to that which sank the Edmund Fitzgerald.
